The inspiration behind the Donatello Series 2 is rooted in the critical role tissue processing plays in cancer diagnosis. The process of sampling tissues and treating them with chemicals to prevent degradation is crucial for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. Italian company Diapath invested years and around 1 million euros into designing the Donatello Series 2, aiming to guarantee reliability, safety, and top-quality results for pathology and oncology therapies.
What sets the Donatello Series 2 apart are its unique features and technological advancements. The SelfCheck Technology reduces the incidence of adverse events and errors in overnight tissue processing. The reagent replacement system allows for easy and safe replacement of reagents and paraffin, minimizing mistakes and spillages. The most notable feature is E.V.A (Emergency eVoluted Algorithm), an advanced virtual algorithm that optimizes the instrument's hardware solutions, independently deciding the best alternative for the samples and the unit itself.
The design realization of the Donatello Series 2 involved the use of SolidEdge 3D modeling software. All metal components are made of AISI 304 stainless steel, and the plastic materials used are resistant to the temperatures and reagents involved in tissue treatment. The design process was a multidisciplinary effort, merging formal, technological, and industrial contributions to create a coherent and concrete design.
The Donatello Series 2 is not just a marvel of design, but also a testament to effective research and problem-solving. The challenges of ensuring proper processing of human samples, preserving morphological and molecular information for diagnostic purposes, and managing risk were all addressed in the design of this innovative instrument.
The Donatello Series 2 has been recognized for its design excellence, winning the Silver A' Medical Devices and Medical Equipment Design Award in 2019. This award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. With its unique features and innovative design, the Donatello Series 2 is indeed a revolutionary tool in the field of pathology diagnosis.
